Raiding

Raiding Charter

We want people to participate in whichever bits of guild organised things they want to, including raiding, because it is fun and they enjoy doing it.  We want raiding to be an enjoyable experience for all who choose to take part, raiders and raid leaders alike.  We are a casual guild but we wish to progress in raids.  To maximise our chances of success in raiding and minimising the potential frustration of others we have expectations for all raiders, which we expect all players to meet every time they choose to sign for a raid (and double so for raid leaders).  These broadly fall into two categories: Preparation and Attitude.

Preparation

·         Sign if you wish to participate on a given raid and as early as possible (this enables raid leaders to work out if a run is viable and / or how many groups to form), thus reducing setup time at the start of a raid) – tentative is intended to mean yes if I am on in time (on time being 15 minutes before the raid start time - see directly below)

·         Be on time for a raid – invites will go out 15 minutes before a raid starts (and locked 30 minutes before the raid starts), with the aim of starting trash clearance at the event time shown

·         Have all your gear enchanted and gemmed, glyphs in place and all gear at 100% repaired at the start of the raid, also have whatever the minimum gear requirement is set for the content being attempted (this will change from time to time so is not written here)

·         Bring 3 hours worth of appropriate food and flasks (remember for progression raiding, fish feasts are probably not the best buffs for many classes)

·         Have the appropriate add-ons installed needed (currently a minimum of TS3, Deadly Boss Mods and Omen 3)

·         Know the fights we are trying to do (raid leaders are likely to summarise for progression fights, but this is no substitute for watching / reading fights on sites such as Tankspot)

·         If possible know in advance what items are upgrades, so you know what items to roll on

·         Try to keep AFKs outside of breaks to a minimum and let the raid leader know if you need to go AFK

·         Try to give raid leader advance warning if you need to leave the raid prior to the expected end time (currently 23:00 server time), this way they can seek to get a replacement when you leave, rather than having to look afterwards and slowing down the run

All these are trying to minimise down time and disruption to the group.  Wiping can be a frustrating exercise and people can have the natural tendency to look for people / things to blame.  A lack of preparation on behalf of a raid member can result in that member becoming a focal point for resentment.

Attitude

·         We choose to play and to raid – the aim is to have fun!

·         Feel free to talk about random stuff during preparation phases – focus when the raid leader is explaining the tactics – the fights are taking place

·         Share ideas for tactics positively at the appropriate times – all the raid leaders listen and know they are far from perfect tactical geniuses (generally via a whisper to the raid leader in the first place)

·         Be constructive after an attempt at a boss – help identify what wasn’t working, what was; however try not to personalise it – no-one will intentionally stand in the fire / get 20 stacks of a debuff / not pick up aggro on an add quick enough, but may need reminding

·         Once an approach is decided, try to follow that approach, even if you proposed an alternative that was ultimately discounted; we maximise our chance of success if we are all pulling in the same direction

·         Take wipes well: progression = wipes = repair bills = sometimes dying at the feet of the same boss several times / all night

Try to stay focused through fights / wipes – there is no point going through the motions half-heartedly if we couldn’t defeat a boss when everyone was focussing 100% previously

·         Attitude is probably the most important thing for raiding and also the hardest for a raid leader to keep on top of while trying to do everything else.  Everyone raiding can help on this, both by bringing their own positive outlook and by helping through discussion on raid chat and or Team Speak.  Nothing is less fun / more demoralising / more isolating for raid leaders than wipes with absolute silence on TS and raid chat before, during and after a fight!!
